The amount of physical activity among youth has dramatically decreased while obesity and chronic health conditions such as diabetes have increased.
Many students are choosing to remain indoors or do not have many outlets or opportunities in which they can go outside and play, causing health risks from a lack of physical activity.
Incorporating sports and physical activity in schools and afterschool programs help to promote better physical health and better lifestyle in adulthood.
Active youth tend to be physically active adults, continuing these health benefits throughout a person’s life on top of the physical and mental health benefits.
Physical activity improves academic performance and reduces behavioral problems in the classroom.
Participation in physical activity is linked to students' ability to focus on tasks and learn. Sports help increase concentration and attention.
Students who engage in physical activity as part of their school day have been shown to have higher reading, writing, and mathematics scores.
Physical activity lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and lowers the risk of obesity. It also reduces stress in students, which may have physical consequences.
Physical activity can help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression in teens, and improves brain function.
Sports can also increase self esteem and self worth, and help reduce stress.
We're here to support you every step of the way. Our dedicated student support team is available to answer your questions and provide guidance throughout your learning journey.
TSP gives students the chance to participate in sports no matter the experience level, and at no cost. Students can create long lasting friendships and memories and build relationships with trusted adults.
Children who spend time outdoors playing, especially organized sports, are less likely to develop vision problems.
Obesity is increasing in children, but data show that kids who are more active, especially after school, are more likely to be of normal weight.
Sports participation helps with coordination and learning new skills.
Playing on a team means learning to work with others and support them.
Success as a team member and an athlete builds confidence.
All of the above can play a role in preventing mental health issues.
Learning the rules of the game, respect for coaches and referees, and how to stay positive even when losing are all valuable life lessons.
While our community bears a need for such positive, enriching programs, we at Turlock Youth Sports Foundation would like to provide such opportunities. We are confident that this program as well as those we will provide in the future will promote not only physical and mental health, but a stronger, positive and promising community as well.
